Respondent Groups are a feature available in the system which allows you to break down a rating question's average score by category. By default, there are 5 categories in the system:

  1. Self: Automatically assigned to the participant who is being evaluated
  2. Manager: Automatically assigned to the direct manager of the reviewee
  3. Peers: Automatically assigned to participants who share the same manager as reviewee
  4. Direct reports: Automatically assigned to all participants who have the reviewee as their manager
  5. Others: Automatically assigned to participants who do not fall into the groups above

When adding participants to a 360 survey, you will see their respondent groups show next to their name:

Notice, in the example above, that Brandon does not have a group assigned to him. This means that he is an 'Other'. To give him a group anyway, simply click the 'Group' link and select the group you'd like to assign him to.

As you probably notice in the screenshot above, there is a respondent group in the drop-down menu that is not listed in this article (Colleagues). Primalogik is able to create custom respondent groups for your account if you would like. Email us at -- we are usually able to do this within 24 hours.

Custom respondent groups, such as Colleagues, can be especially useful for small organizations where someone only has 1 direct report, 1 peer, etc. Rather than separating their scores and, more or less, giving away their identity, you can reclassify respondents into the Colleagues group so that they are all averaged together and there are no anonymity issues.

*Note: You can always change respondent groups even after a survey is completed. The system will automatically recalculate the average scores per respondent group. There is no limit to how many times you can do this. Feel free to slice and dice the data any way you see fit.
